It is saying that the drill bit (the little piece of super strong thin metal stick) will create the hole just enough to drill in the screw. If the drill bit's circumference is larger than the screws, you will not have a strong solid contact hold (support) with the wall. The results will be loose shelf unit. Inform the hardware personnel your intentions of mounting the shelves. For example on what type of wall the shelves are going to be on and what you're gonna put on the shelves. For example, heavy pieces of items or light weight items. Would you need anything else to secure the screws on the wall? A butterfly anchor or a regular anchor. Also mention the types of wall is it. Is it a sheet rock wall, a brick or cinder block wall, etc. Let the man know. **Q: Are the brackets 32" apart so I can screw them into wall studs?** A: They are not . I installed the brackets with steel anchors instead of plastic anchors included in box. Unfortunately wall studs don't always line up where you would like them too. I put it together then installed. Put mine over bar was able to put the shelves on a chair on the bar to hold in place as I screwed into wall. Worked perfectly! I am a small lady and did it myself. **Q: What type of wood is used?** A: Rustic New Zealand pine solid wood **Q: what is the size of the pipe?** A: Like 2 to 3 inches in diameter. But it's quite sturdy. Actually very sturdy. It's like an actual pipe not like a cheap pipe.
