We have a new bed which I let my husband choose based on his bad back. It is a firm mattress which seemed ok in the showroom but creates terrible hip pain, and sometimes neck pain, for me. Plus, it turns out, I hate a firm mattress! I was even starting to feel resentful towards my husband, that he gets relief while I get pain. Desperate, I decided I'd try a twin mattress pad that would be on my side only. I think I definitely made the right decision. It makes my side of the bed markedly higher, so not the best aesthetically, but I'll do anything to feel better, sleep better, and not resent my husband forever after!The pad came out of the box with no noticeable smell, which was a relief because I had a memory foam pad years ago that smelled toxic, even after long time use. I let it air out anyway, and pump up from being packed tightly, which it did in no time. I put a fitted twin sheet over it, put it on top of the mattress with a fitted sheet, and it didn't shift (I was afraid it would.) So far, so good.
