Violin strings were either sweet and mellow sheep gut, or harsh-sounding steel. The sheep gut strings were magnificent, but short-lived, and wouldn't stay in tune with variations in temperature and humidity. Then, some years ago a God-inspired genius developed the "Perlon" string, and there are no finer ones than Thomastik Dominant. They have a nylon core, they have a lovely sweet tone similar to the old gut strings, they stay in tune once broken in, and they are long-lasting. If you can afford them, buy these for your violin.
