But this is still a far cry from topping the original two from 1984 and 1991, however it does trump the last couple films of the franchise. I'm really glad to see James Cameron producing and to see the R rating again but it could've been better, but it's a worthy addition to the franchise which a lot of people say should've been terminated a long time ago. But not me. I'm intrigued to what they'll do next. I hadn't rushed to the cinema to see it as I now prefer watching all films in the comfort of my own home. I was a bit concerned at the negative reviews but approached my viewing with as open a mind as possible and on balance I think it is an excellent if not outstanding film. My criteria for a good movie is that it must absorb me for its entire length, it should entertain me, probably make me laugh and cry in equal measure and I should want to watch it again. As an Arnie fan there is a good chance it will be ok but I will qualify this to deal with all the negative reviews. It was great to see both Arnie and Linda H reprising their roles albeit in the guise of the characters from T2. I thought the supporting cast were ok but the bad terminator was ,I feel miss cast which was a shame. Most of the first hour consisted of what I would call production violence like a computer game and wasn't particularly valuable. from the moment Arnold' s character appears as the humanized older man, the whole film shifted to a higher level and the story became far more meaningful with the inevitable T2 type heroic ending. I appreciate the need for the first half of the film but we probably could have got there much quicker and still enjoyed the main , second half. Folk who have complained about the re writing of the whole terminator concept should try and understand that it is only Science fiction and is only an entertainment . In the end does it really matter if the characters are interesting and I would suggest that both of the original ones are and continue to be so.
