Just plugged it into an outlet, waited for the light to turn orange then logged into the Linksys setup wireless network on my laptop. The extender led me through the rest of the process including finding the best location to give maximum range extension. We needed the 2.4 GHz signal for a particular device and this extender allows us to turn off the 5 GHz. (The opposite can be done, too, or leave both bands on.) The device is 20 feet away from the extender but it still connected right away. It solved our problem.

A: I don't know but it advertiseed that it worked with most routers. Links techs could probably answer your question.

**Q: Will this be suitable for use with my chromecast? the tv i want to set it up on is on a different floor from my router.**
A: It depends on the floor construction. If it is wooden joists and wooden flooring, it would probably work. If the floors are reinforced concrete, then almost certainly it will not. You could get some idea by taking your laptop to the same floor that you intend to use the Chromecast, put it at about the same distance from your current access point as you propose for the Chromecast/AC1200 setup. If you're able to stream movies to the laptop, then the Chromecast/AC1200 will likely work. You could also try using your TV/Chromecast instead of the laptop, but that might be difficult if it is a big TV.I hope this helps.

This is my second cheap all-in-one extender unit. Neither has given a 5 star performance, but this one does better than the cheap Belken it replaces, and the price was right. Setup was easy, using WPS. Performance isn't perfect, even though I'm tasking it lightly, over short distances with almost no obstruction. Loses signal periodically when I'm on the porch trying to stream music, through a sliding glass door, a scant 15 ft. away. Not a deal-buster, but it's frustrating sometimes. Next time I'll try a regular wireless router set up as an access point.
