I seek examples from navies around the world as well as my own U.S. Navy and civilian designs, so naturally I bought this German example. I like the knife although the marlin spike doesn't lock as securely as it's supposed to. I don't see this as a detriment for my purposes because I'm not going to be subjecting it to very much stress and not all marlin spikes lock to begin with. I've seen other reviews that rated this as a good value with no mention of any spike locking issues so I figure I just got one with a manufacturing flaw. The blade is very sharp, the construction seems to be very solid and it fits well in the hand. I'm keeping the knife because I don't think that the locking issue will be a factor in anything I'll be doing with the knife at all. If you need a marlin spike knife for actual deck work, I would recommend the U.S. Navy issue Mil.
