The bowl I got doesn't appear to be metal, however...it's lighter weight, has no "clink" when you tap it, etc. It's almost like plastic painted with something to make it appear metallic, I'm not sure. But it's a lovely bowl, no flaws or defects as other reviewers have received, and the plus side to it not being real metal is that I was able to put it in the microwave along with the shave soap puck I needed to melt/liquify. So it works, and I have no complaints. I would probably even buy it again, since being able to microwave it keeps another dish clean. I like the fact that it has lower sides and a wide flat-ish bottom. Has a nice feel in my hand when developing a lather with my brush. I had expected the lid to have a tighter fit. As designed it just loosely sits on the bowl more like a dust cover than a protective lid. Ended up tossing the lid in a bathroom drawer. So don't plan to put the lid on the bowl and then put the bowl into a bag of some kind and travel with this product.
