I'm not too crazy about electrical components that have buttons with double, even triple actions associated with them because if one of those buttons goes bad, then the whole thing goes bad.This recorder is one of those gadgets where the on/off button is also the play/record button. However so far it works pretty well. It took me some time to understand the not-so-legible manual, but after a while it started making sense.The recorder is really well built, all metal and has a set of 2 little lights that display the status(on, off, record, playback). Again the 2 lights can light up 2, 3 or 5 times, so you have to be able to interpret what they mean by going to the manual. Is this supposed to simplify thing ? In any case, once you turn the unit on it is supposed to be voice activated, but you really can't tell whether it is continuosly recording, or that a voice actually activated the recording ? This is important since voice-activation saves battery life. The manual does not say what type of battery is used, or how to charge it. My guess is that you plug into a USB port on your computer and wait till one of the little lights comes on but that's just a guess ?The only way to playback a recording is through the head-phones that come with the recorder. Once you plug in the headphones, you can hear the recordings one by one with the last one first. The sound of the headphones is very dim and even turning the volume all the way up does not help.The volume/up , Play button, and volume/down buttons are part of the head-phone, but instead of these buttons being at arms length, they are bunched up too close to one of the speakers , so they are very hard to control while you are listening.Luckilly you can also hear your recordings through your computer. This is the better option because you can turn the volume up pretty high and you can actually see each individual recording on the screen. I rate this recorder "OK" but nothing more than that. For the money it's not bad though.I have an Olympus voice-activated recorder that I purchased years ago that makes mince-meat out of this recorder. However it is not as rugged as this one, or so it seems. Since I only plan to use this recorder sparingly, it is not a bad back-up thogh.

It’s quite complicated. May require adapters, depending upon what computer you’re using to download the information. The instructions are somewhat cryptic and I was never able to tell if I was recording over an old recording or if it was starting from the end of the other recording so in that since I can’t really use it because if I record over something important, I’m defeating the purpose of recording it in the first place. I would not recommend just because there’s too many things that could go wrong and too few buttons that serve multiple purposes.

This little recorder has great battery life. I like that it can be clipped to a belt loop, lanyard, keychain, etc.It takes practice in order to get the hang of using it as the manual is a bit confusing. The on/off button is also the play/record button which is probably the biggest downfall of this little device.If you're trying to hide this device under a shirt or in a pocket, almost every sound will activate the record function so you may find yourself recording a lot of white noise/dead space.Voices come in fairly clearly even when the device is in a pocket.The headphones that come with this product are not great. I recommend investing in a pair of over-the-ear style headphones or just using the micro USB with the converter and transferring the audio to your computer.

Sound quality is fine. You can also use it as a flash memory.Customer service is the best of the product.User interface is not too intuitive, so be sure to save the manual forever.

I purchased this to protect my 7 year old son from a mentally abusive teacher and the things I've heard make this item worth its weight in gold! I now have something to go along with my son's word about how he's being treated at school. It was a little confusing to work at first. And I'm not sure that it's actually voice activated because there's a lot of dead silence throughout the day but it recorded it saved it did to my phone and it served its purpose every day so I can't complain. I'd give it five stars but if it was actually voice activated and a little bit easier to understand. But if you're looking for something inexpensive to act as a third party in a conversation this is your go-to item.
