They are 4 inches in length (the plastic spring) and stretched when forced up to 30 inches. The carabiner clip is made of aluminum and spring locks in place, there is a steel ring of about 7/8 of an inch at the oposite end and similar to a key chain ring. It is my impression that these are not designed to hold a heavy weight, but I did not put them to the test (got better things to do today). I will use them to secure and keep at hand small tools and fishing gear that I use a lot and to keep at hand. Good pricing when you buy by the dozen. and their is a multitude of uses for them around home.For securing my fishing rods and paddle in my Kayak I use heavy duty stretch lines but I found that the stitching at the end of those lines to close the loop is their weaker point.
