I simply wasn't sure it was worth it. However, now that I have it, and have used it, I'd say it is completely worth it! First, it's very well constructed: the handle is very comfortable to hold, and the blade portion is sharp, and does a great job of grating foods (yeah, as with any other grater, you have to be careful!). I love the fact that the handles come in a variety of colors! Seems such a simple thing, but I like having utensils that look as good as they function! Like almost everything I buy, this utensil is dishwasher safe. When purchasing this grater, I did not notice it comes with a sheath / sleeve for storing! What a great idea! Keeps my grater from potentially getting banged around in my storage drawer, and possibly damaging its sharpness! The length of the grater is perfect, allowing for a good amount of grating surface, making your grating much more effective (more grating surface makes for faster, easier grating, if you take advantage of the overall grating surface!). It's so easy to hold the microplane in one hand, while grating / zesting, and turning a lemon around in the other. It does a great job grating the skin of lemons. The teeth are very sharp and fine. The product itself is very sturdy with heft. Because it is well constructed, the product is economical. I do not think I will be needing to purchase any other grater for years to come. It has made the task of zesting lemons easy for me. It is so much better than any of the other lemon zesters I have tried using over the years.Before purchasing this item, I had been regulated to using a sharp knife to remove the peel, and then I would scrape the white bitter part from the underside of the peel, and then finely chop the peel; a very time consuming process. This gadget has saved me so much time.
