I bought the cargo bar(s) for an "outside the box" purpose. I needed it as part of my Hurricane Irma building protection plan. My home has a front door-side lite combo and needed wind and debris protection. My storm shutters fit into the opening perfectly. Unfortunately, there was no retention mechanism. My solution was to install the shutters against the door and extend two of these cargo bars in the opening against the panels, ratcheting them tightly against the door frame masonry. They performed flawlessly, holding the storm panels in place. My front door and window were protected. I saved time and didn't need to drill into the masonry and tile to install channels or studs.I would highly recommend these cargo bars. I use it to barricade my front door for security purposes. I've had it for a week and it already came in handy. Yesterday morning I was ready to jump in the shower when my wife said someone was attempting to gain access to our apartment via the front door. Whoever it was had tried the doorknob with no luck. The way I use the bar, it jams the deadbolt in place so even the right key won't turn the lock. I wedge the bar between the front door and the coat closet door across from it. I don't know if it a maintenance man without permission, an old tenant trying his/her key or possibly someone with poor intentions.
