A: Hi there, This is only battery operated. It takes 2 D batteries.

A: depends how much you use it but a month or two with lots of use i guess. to me its not that heavy on batteries

A: Hello, yes you could. This unit uses batteries And clips onto The side of the pet carrier.There is no cord. It fastens to the door or another grid / bars type opening. In the carrier.  I hope this answers Your. Question.
