So stiff it can't be bent. Kind of like a white cardboard that was wetted and then put in a form to create the hat. I'm an adult and it literally sat on the top of my head but didn't touch the sides of my head so I used the string to pull up to keep it on my head. About what you'd expect for the price you pay for two and OK for one or two time use. **Q: Can you order one white and one black** A: I don't recall. 2 white hats were ordered by me. I didn't look for other colors. **Q: would u be able to dye it** A: No, I don't think so. Not sure what it's made out of, but I think it would soak up any type of dye. And it's kinda big for my head, the size of. After I tried it on with an outfit, I decided not to wear it after all. You get what you pay for and it's a little cheezy. More for a costume. **Q: Can you remove the strings?** A: Yes you can, but I don't think you would want to. If you remove the strings you'll have two holes and it will probably not stay on your head because of the materials it is made of. Unfortunately, I've never worn the hat. Two come with the order. It is made out of some kind of cardboard or something??? I thought I could wear it with an outfit, but it looked more for a New Year's party or something. One time use? Play hat?
