It locks with a little button on the top or bottom of the knob. Installed everything without a problem until inserting the last screw on the bottom handle. The insert was stripped so the screw never was able to fully tighten and entire bottom handle had movement during function. Went ahead and requested return and replacement. Got the next set and fully installed only to realize at the end that the keys only worked for the deadbolt and not the lower handle unit. Also, if you wiggled the bottom handle rapidly, it would unlock itself from the lock position. What kind of security is that? Lol. If you go to this sellers storefront, they have flashing banners that say "stop Asian hate" and "black lives matter." If you spent the same amount of energy on quality control than you do on political ideology, maybe you wouldn't have so many of the same complaints and so many unhappy customers. Buyer beware!
