The standard 1" length screw seems like it would be ideal for 80% of furniture, but we were installing them onto an IKEA Hemnes dresser, which does have a very thick face. I then tried to cut down the modifiable size, which was nearly impossible. My husband even tried to basically no avail - we got it down to the length we needed, but it did not cut cleanly and therefore did not sit right into the knob.
