They are not the large, bulky type, which makes them great for smaller sections of hair, braids, or simple ponytails.They do not cause as much pulling, ripping, or discomfort as many regular rubber bands. I can usually reuse each one a few times before it stretches out. My daughter has very thick hair and they work well for her, while I have thinner hair and they hold mine nicely too.
