The dye comes out of the bottom of the brush, and you really need to work it to get the dye to the tip. The tip is what you'll use to get to your roots, otherwise, the dye will be on the part of your hair that doesn't need to be touched up. I often need to use a Q-tip to move the dye from the bottom to the top. Even still, my gray is still REALLY obvious after a lot of work. I've tried this several times now and it doesn't get better. I won't be ordering again - it was a waste of money for me.I have silvery-white gray hair, with a wiry texture. I cover up with a permanent dark brown. I ordered the dark brown and it is too light (too orange-red). If I did buy again, I'd get the black. ### ⭐⭐ MEEH. The Dark Brown leaves a greenish tint to my gray hair. *by C***L on September 3, 2015* This product is just so-so. I found that every night when I washed my face, the product along the hairline of my face would wash off. I did like the applicator. If this product wasn't so expensive, I would consider buying it again. As it is, I'll go back to my "old" method of dealing with the grays along my hairline before my next hair color - using waterproof mascara (my natural hair color is brunette, so I can get away with using dark brown mascara). Using waterproof mascara just as well as this product, and is a lot less expensive. ### ⭐ Doesn't work *by M***Y on November 18, 2015* I bought the dark brown, and it came today. I was excited to try it. Unfortunately, the color doesn't come out onto the brush no matter how many times I click it or shake it.
