## Description

A complete historical account of the Jewish people from Creation to the first century, presented in the classic William Whiston translation. The Antiquities of the Jews by Flavius Josephus is one of the foundational works of ancient history, offering a sweeping narrative of Jewish history, religious tradition, and cultural development. Written in the first century AD, this monumental work traces the story of the Jewish people from the biblical creation through the rise of Rome, providing essential historical context for both the Old and New Testaments. Josephus, a Jewish historian writing for a Greco-Roman audience, expands upon biblical accounts with detailed interpretation, political context, and historical analysis. His work serves as a crucial bridge between scriptural narrative and recorded history, making it indispensable for scholars of religion, biblical studies, and ancient civilization. This unabridged edition features the renowned translation by William Whiston, whose eighteenth-century rendering of Josephus remains the most widely read and cited English version. Preserved in full, this edition offers readers access to one of the most important historical texts of antiquity in its complete and authoritative form. About the Author Flavius Josephus (c. AD 37–100) was a Jewish historian and scholar born in Jerusalem. A participant in the First Jewish–Roman War, he later became a Roman citizen and wrote extensively on Jewish history and culture for a Roman audience. His major works, including The Jewish War and The Antiquities of the Jews , remain among the most important sources for understanding the history of Judaism and the context of early Christianity. About the Translator William Whiston (1667–1752) was an English theologian, historian, and mathematician, best known for his influential translation of the works of Flavius Josephus. First published in the eighteenth century, Whiston’s translation has remained the standard English edition for centuries, valued for its clarity, completeness, and enduring scholarly influence.
