Isn't that toxic? I thought graphite is what's typically used...** A: No. No pencils in use today use lead. Pencils have always been made from Graphite which is safe and non-toxic. The discoverers of Graphite thought it was a form of lead (because of it's shiny gray color) and the name stuck. Regular wooden pencils use a combination of clay and graphite for their "leads." The Pentel Hi Polymer "leads" use graphite mixed with a polymber (plastic) to make the "lead" smoother so it glides across the page. BTW, good question as more and more Pentel products are no longer being produced in Japan. **Q: DOES IT FIT INTO CROSS MECHANICAL PENCIL?** A: Yes, this lead fits any 0.5mm mechanical pencil **Q: Can i choose 2h or 3h?** A: That depends on how dark you need your lines/notation to be. 3H is harder, which is less prone to breakage but also leaves a slightly lighter, less visible mark. Softer leads create darker, more visible marks but are more likely to get smudged accidentally (and are more difficult to erase if necessary). So you have to assess what you need to do to make the best choice. Note: There is not a significant difference in hardness between 2H or 3H. I seldom use anything harder than 2H for engineered drawing because I can create lines that are sufficIently dark for my prints or copies.
