Tight enough that I'm not sure I can get it off. The flip top on the lid does hit your nose when fully open, as other reviewers have mentioned. This makes the lid almost useless, duet to the coffee inside will splash out of the hole that the tab was supposed to close. As for as the handle, was not really happy with it from the beginning. It looks nice, but you have to slide it up to the top of the cup to get it to semi stay on. Then when you drink coffee out of it, you are having to put your lips on the handle and coffee leaks under the handle and makes a really yucky mess when you take the handle off or it slips down out of place (which happens very frequently.
