I got mine loaded up with a custom build of android-8.0.0_r34 (with a single peculiar bug fix to surface flinger), flashed with fastboot, and we are up and running with Oreo. By comparison, the Qualcomm DragonBoard only supports Android 6, with a bunch of extra patches, while the LeMaker HiKey has its whole support setup built into the main source tree.But I should note that this thing is also kind of a pain in the neck, I hate the form factor (same with the DragonBoard) and doesn't come with a huge amount of support, so you kind of have to know what you are doing before you dive right in. And it is pretty darn expensive for a dev kit, so you better have a really good reason for wanting one.In my case, the power supply came with the wrong plug adapter! But it is very annoying that the setting window keeps on crashing! I cannot even configure the WiFi!. Also it has type c interface which is different from other 96boards.
