We obviously want to protect our childs ears. To make sure they worked I put these on myself and they barely muffled the sound of my husband talking to me. I had him try them on he felt like he could hear me perfectly when I was speaking in my normal tone of voice and he could also hear me whisper. These were really cute but basically ear muffs. Disappointed. The company had a great idea of letting the child play with them a few days before actually having to "wear" them. Letting the child see that they are not scary and are instead fun will help reduce the fight that may occur if they are "forced" to wear them at an event. I like that the ears are removable, too.
