The color is a deep cranberry red because it is made with fresh flowers. Most other SJW oils are reddish brown. I use this oil mostly for my face. As It is made with apricot and almond oil (not the usual olive oil) it feels just divine when applied - not oily and not greasy and a little goes a long way. The other benefits are, as already mentioned by another poster, relief from sore muscles and especially relief from nerve pain as in neuropathy. This herbal oil has to made with fresh plant material to be considered high quality. The deeper the reddish color the better. If it's made with dried St. John's Wort then the color is clear, and doesn't have the pain relieving quality.
