It's my first time using an M.2 SSD but this was VERY easy to install (I'd expect this is motherboard dependant). I got 2 Hynix sticks, one was a 1TB and one was a 2TB. They look the same in size etc and just slot straight in then secured. The sticks feel really well made and good quality but my research made me choose these over the Samsung 990s as it was better value for money. They were compatible with my build and I'd recommend PC Parts Picker to be sure before you buy. One thing to note is Hynix did release a firmware update as some users had reported issues with speed. It's very easy to apply just download the Hynix software and update and install onto your SSDs. The read write speeds are really fast with games loading within a minute from launch to getting into game, some as fast as 30-seconds depending on skippable cutscenes. I'm very impressed with the performance and despite my first time using Hynix, I'd highly recommend them! Review: Class memory; software does not include backup - SK Hynix are a known for their fast, quality memory, quite often they are the chips in other labelled memory. My T-Group Create DDR5 7200MHz has SK Hynix chips, so the SK Hynix Platinum P41 PCIe Gen4 was an easy choice for storage and, also in keeping with the overclocked i7-14700K CPU in a ROG STRIX Z790-H motherboard. It's runs smoothly but hotter than the WD SN850X boot drive, despite the large integral heat sinks in the Z790-H and, being single-sided memory. That said, the temperature is still below 40 deg. C in an air-cooled set-up. My recent desertcart reviews include the system I've described here: ROG STRIX Z790-H motherboard, i7-14700K CPU, T-Group DDR5 7200 memory, and WD SN850 Gen 4 memory. The software download is not mentioned in the SK Hynix installation sheet; you have to find it via an internet search. There's a drive manager app and, a separate Macrium cloning app. Unlike Western Digital, there isn't a backup imaging app; I toyed with deducting a star for that but didn't. In summary: class chips, but you'll need an imaging app for backups. Now, the P41 runs cooler, uses less power, is faster, and is just as reliable (750 TBW warranty), if not more, than the 980. It is the new winner. **Q: What would be a suitable external enclosure for this drive?** A: Dweib McGee's references to "Gen4" I think confuses USB4 and PCIe-4! These P41 SSDs will run at their max NVMe PCIe-4x4 speeds when installed inside a very recent vintage machine that supports PCIe-4 and will NOT when installed into PCIe-3 slot!!! I'm not aware of any NVMe to USB4 (or other Thunderbolt) bridge that yet supports PCIe-4 so you'd likely NOT see much benefit to running a P41 externally compared to the cheaper Hynix P31. That said, any true Thunderbolt or fully compliant USB4 enclosure will provide maximum speed from the computer to the bridge. Avoid any USB3.x housing unless you are running older tech (i.e. much slower) SSDs. **Q: Will this work with early 2015 macbook pro 13" retina?** A: I believe it should. The P31 was used a lot for 2015 MBP SSD Upgrades.
