Keep the packaging, and aluminum for the date codes, and store it in a Ziploc back in your refrigerator for up to one month after opening it for the remaining portion. Please note that this food does NOT release on its own, many customers misunderstand the purpose of this block. The fish must swim to it to nibble on it. Therefore, one fish will not make a big dent in a whole block. Also, some tips customers have provided us regarding going away and leaving their fish include doing a partial water change a couple of days prior to leaving, and breaking a small piece off of this food and crumbling it for one or two meals before leaving as well. They were put into the tanks the day after a detailed cleaning. On day 2, I was left with 2 cloudy tanks the morning after dropping the tablets in them! Also, the fish were almost entirely disinterested in the tablets (I have guppies, tetras, snails, glo-fish and rasboras). By day 3 both food tablets were showing fungal growth which became worse with each passing day and acted as a barrier to the fish actually accessing the tablet! Another reviewer on this page who took pictures of his tablet actually shows the fungal growth (it starts off as a whitish mound) in his tank Only the snails in my tanks seemed interested in feeding on the tablets but I noticed one snail that was eating it keeled over & died post feeding not 1/4" away from the tablet!. Simply put, it was a disappointing experience and I will have to seek another solution to finding a way to feed my fish while on vacation. I was hopeful that this product would work. Frankly, I am surprised that some folks here have anything positive to report about these food tablets!
