The main reasons are that is is so small (easily 1/2 the size of the normal setup) and that it runs on 12v DC. For me this means I can run them from my house batteries in my camping rig (converted van) and don't need a inefficient inverter. I just cut off the end plug/124v to 12v power converter, soldered on an SAE and plug it into my fuze box.
