One of my jobs there was to fill spray bottles with fragrance oil and spray everything every morning - including the bags of potpourri! The mixture was one tiny bottle of fragrance oil to 16oz. of 70% isopropyl alcohol in a spray bottle. After shaking it well I'd spray everything in sight including curtains on the windows and rugs on the floor, etc. (every foot step would release the fragrance, I was told) There was a reason for the alcohol, I understood, water stains certain fabrics and alcohol evaporates too fast so it doesn't stain. I've used this trick for the last 40 years in my houses. I don't spray every day though, just when I think the aroma is fading - maybe weekly or less often. My favorites are apple in late summer and fall, then cinnamon through January, and "fresh linen" in the spring and summer.
