Because of archer's paradox and you shoot right handed the arrow kicks out to the left, and because on longbows and recurves there isn't much center shot. As the arrow kick out to the left the counter clockwise spin brings the arrow back in straight. If you shoot compound or past center cut out, then you can do either right or left. **Q: Are there different degrees of helical?** A: No.. Only if you change from the E-Z Fletch regular long to the E-Z Fletch Carbon Mini which DOES have more angle to the vanes so carbon arrows can spin faster due to shorter vanes. I purchased the Mini replacement arms for my regular. Just push out the pins install other set reinstall the pins and your good to go. Hope this helps... **Q: where is this made? is it made in the USA?** A: yes **Q: Is this an older model? The current models are blue in color.** A: I can't answer about color. I can vouch for how well this works. Best tool I have used, Very fast.
