It is a screw-top so it does depend on how hard you twisted it shut or how hot the substance you placed inside it was (I.e. Could have resulted in a vacuum situation) but I would say it is easy. When closing it though you have to be careful in finding the correct twist groove and not force it or it will not close properly and can either spill or not hold contents hot. **Q: can you fit your hand inside? ( to properly wash )** A: I have small hands, so I can fit inside to properly clean it. I would use a brush otherwise. **Q: Does it have a folding spoon in the lid? (another model does.)** A: It does not have a folding spoon in the lid. And the lid is just that... a well insulated lid but no cup or spoon.
