## Description

The local meteorologist has nothing on this all-wireless professional weather center from La Crosse Technology. Accompanied by a thermo-hygro sensor, a solar-powered wind sensor, a self-emptying rain bucket sensor, the weather center assesses a host of climate conditions. The weather center LCD base receiver holds 3000 weather data sets, and displays: date and time in 12- or 24-hour format; forecast icon with tendency indicator; indoor/outdoor temperatures in Fahrenheit or Celsius; indoor/outdoor relative humidity percentage; wind chill, speed, and direction; air pressure; rainfall rate and totals; dew point; minimum/maximum values with time and date stamp; and historical weather graphs. Several weather alert alarms warn of storms or other problematic weather conditions. The weather center’s remote sensors evaluate outdoor temperatures from -39.8 to 139.8 degrees F, wind speeds from 0 to 118 mph, and rainfall from 0 to 393-3/5 inches. From a distance up to 164 feet, the wind and rain sensors transmit data to the thermo-hygro sensor. In turn, the thermo-hygro sensor communicates with the base receiver from up to 200 feet away. The base receiver wall-hangs or stands on a tabletop; the sensors come with mounting brackets and hardware for installation. For data storage on a home computer, the weather center comes with a USB transceiver and the free download of La Crosse’s Heavy Weather 2800 Pro PC software (compatible with Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7 operating systems). The transceiver communicates with the base receiver from up to 80 feet away. To power the weather center, the separate purchase of four C and two AA alkaline batteries is required. A limited one-year guarantee covers this item. The oak-framed base receiver measures 7-1/2 inches wide by 1-1/2 inches deep by 7-1/2 inches high.

    No Mac software

*by M***R on Reviewed in the United States on March 23, 2013*

Got this weather station to get into monitoring local weather. Didn't want to spend $600 for better ones to start. This weather station is good for the price. It shows what I wanted to show. After receiving the product I learned that La Crosse Technology refuses to make the protocols available to 3rd party developers for this model (unlike their other models). Hence there is no Mac software available for data display or uploading to a web site. (I ended up using Parallels on a Mac to run the La Crosse Windows program; not an ideal solution.) When (and if) this weather station fails, I will not buy a La Crosse model to replace it, but will get one from a company that supports Macintosh users.

    Absolute Pile of Rubbish

*by A***T on Reviewed in the United States on February 5, 2016*

Don’t touch this La Crosse WS-2811 with a 1000ft barge pole it’s a pile of rubbish and La Crosse don't offer any real support, their warranty isn’t worth the paper it’s written on. Turned up with the wind sensor dead on arrival, it has never worked straight out of the box. Have been thru all the start-up, factory reset procedures etc etc many times, not a flicker from the wind sensor, La Crosse don’t want to know about it in spite of it being a fairly common theme (from my observations on the internet) Don’t buy a La Crosse product because it’s an expensive pile of rubbish that doesn’t work and has no support, La Crosse appear to continue to sell this rubbish in spite of problems with it, don’t get caught like me, get yourself a cheap and nasty Chinese weather station, it might work and if it doesn’t at least it’s cheap. NOT HAPPY.The following questions have been submitted to La CrossI note on you website that you still advertise and sell numerous weather stations equipped with your Solar Rechargeable Wind Sensors. Is it fair to say that La Crosse Technology’s Solar Recharge Sensors are at the very least problematic?, because in addition to my own experience, reviews by your customers on various internet sites suggest that they are.As you know my La Crosse Solar Wind Sensor was dead out of the box, not a flicker out of it, in spite of many resets, factory resets and plenty of exposure to bright lights and bright sunlight.Once again, reports on the internet suggest that this is a totally typical experience for La Crosse customers, and that even when your Solar Wind Sensors do work, they are unlikely to work for much more than a year.Surely La Crosse Technology is aware of this, yet you have not only not recalled these units, but continue to sell and market these Weather Stations, have La Crosse Technology come up with a fix, or could it reasonable to describe this as a scam?Is this considered reasonable behaviour of a reputable company? Isn’t it called off-loading a pile of dodgy crap? Or would another way of putting it be, La Crosse Technology, shaft their customers?La Crosse Technology state in numerous places in their manuals and troubleshooting that batteries are the number one problem. I find it interesting that the only component of my Weather Station that fails to work is also the only component that does not have user replicable batteries. The Wind Sensor has been designed in such a way that it is not possible to access the batteries without breaking components and rendering the Wind Sensor un-serviceable, is this a deliberate design feature on La Crosse Technology’s part?Is it a design feature designed to sell a lot of replacement sensors? The batteries in my Wind Sensor are marked ‘11-2012 11 2015,’What do these numbers represent? manufacture and use by date perhaps?Have La Crosse got Weather Stations out there in the marketplace fitted with batteries that are past their use by date and are not user replaceable? And if so does La Crosse technology consider that a reasonable situation? And do you think that is a reasonable way to treat your customers?La Crosse have basically told me by email, hard-luck their warranty is only valid in North America, well for me this is a hang of a lot more than a warranty issue, it’s about how La Crosse treat their customers. Is it fair to say La Crosse that you are selling product that you know or should know is a pile of defective crap? You have asked me by email if I have an address for service in the USA, well the answer is no, I would not consider paying the post on a replacement Sensor given that internet reports suggest that it would be more than likely that the replacement would not work on arrival and that if it did, I would be lucky if it still functioned a year later. Exactly how stupid does La Crosse think their customers are?I look forward to answers to these questions.Have a nice day.

This looks and works great with excellent quality

*by P***E on Reviewed in the United States on June 5, 2010*

My wife is a weather geek, so I wanted to get her a weather station. After reading the reviews on weather stations I was concerned. I decided to stay with the top two makers. I purchased the La Crosse ws-2811. The construction quality was 200% + better than one that I looked at four years ago. I had a little trouble connecting to the wind sensor. I left it outside for two day to insure that the batteries had been fully charged. On the second day I lost the outdoor temperature readings. I opened up the compartment for the batteries in the thermo-hygro sensor and the batteries had sort of buckled and not making connection. I put a strip of tape across the batteries to hold them in place and the outdoor temperature was instantly received but not the wind and rain. Tried resetting the display and wind sensor with no luck. Removed & reinstalled the batteries from the display unit and everything worked. This was the first time I became aware of all the reception icons. Everything is installed with 40 feet of each other and I have no problem with reception. Probably would have installed quicker if I had read installation step 4 and 5 more closely. Placed the thermo-hygro sensors next to the displayunit in the house and received exactly the same readings for indoor and outdoor. I have not tested out the pc software. I leaving that for my wife to do. I give this weather station 5 stars. They appear to have resolved the problems I saw in earlier model reviews.Cons: The unit did not come with manual or pc software. I was able to download the software and 36-page users manual for their web site.
