I ordered a 38x31 blanket for my fireplace, which has an outer metal dimensions of 37.5 x 32, and an opening of 36 x 19 3/8. The fit horizontally was perfect even though blanket is .5 in wider than the exposed metal, you really can't tell its a little wide plus the magnetic are recessed from the edge. The vertical dimension is a little short but the cover covers up the vents and opening, which is the source of the cold air. The magnets are strong and stick well. We noticed an instant difference in the room temperature and drafts.
