Review: Good little Iron. Good Temperature Control - I purchased this 70w Weller soldering iron station after my 10-year-old [at least] 40-watt Weller iron quit... (after I inadvertently left it on over night!). This little iron heats very quickly, and holds a very even temperature once it's hot. I'm not sure that the digital temperature readout is particularly accurate (although there is a "temperature offset" feature in the setup menu, to calibrate it/make it more accurate, but I haven't messed with that yet). I have it set to display "750°F", but I don't think it's really that hot... In any case, it really doesn't matter [to me], because I just set it to a high enough value to thoroughly & quickly melt my 60/40 (or 63/37) electronics solder, but not so hot as to oxidize the tip... regardless of the "reading". I'm using it primarily for electronics work (I repair/rebuild radio amplifiers), and it works very well for that, for the last 10 days or so. The handle is comfortable to grip and easy to use, and the slim shape of the heating element makes it nice getting into tight spots. The "Sleep" feature is nice too, so that the unit basically shuts-down (goes to low heat) after several minutes, and you can set the delay time in the menu. Also, the display reads in either F or C (selectable in the menu). The tips for this model are readily available (I already had a bag of 'aftermarket' replacements), but since the temperature is pretty well regulated, the tip should last a long time (my old iron was unregulated and would get quite hot, which burned-up the tips fairly quickly). So far I'm happy with this unit. It has worked perfectly right out of the box... no issues whatsoever. I guess time will tell, though... At this point, I'd recommend it.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How often do the tips need to be replaced? my radioshack 40 watt iron was always melting tips.**
A: I've put about 3 oz of solder through the original tip (mostly 60/40 flux core) and I also occasionally take 220 grit sandpaper to keep the tip nice and shiny (I've owned this iron for about 2 years). The tip still looks brand new once cleaned up a bit.

**Q: Details say you can adjust the iron from 5 to 40 watts. What range is that in F degrees**
A: There is no firm correlation between wattage and temperature. Don't waste your money. Get an iron with actual feedback controlled temperature control.

You cannot calibrate this for temperature. Tip temperature at any given wattage setting will depend on room temperature and will drop quickly when you actually try to solder using this. Then it takes a long time to come back up to temperature.

**Q: could i swithc out the iron and plug a differnt soldering iron in if i wanted?**
A: Yes.
I've used several different soldering irons in it.
  I wouldn't go over a 40 watt iron.
My old switchable 15/30 watt works very well with it.
Don't leave it on high to warm up unless your watching it.
First time burned the solder off the iron.
 Had to re tin it.
  Yup it get Hot 😆😊

**Q: How long does it take to heat up enough to work with?**
A: Under 5 mins? Turn the dial to the far right and turn it on. Heats up too much then just turn down the dial.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Decent starter iron
*by J***L on July 3, 2026*

Quick ramp up time with precise temp control. A little bit lightweight for the base so if you don't have your cable straightened put before working, you are prone to dragging it around the table.
