You are looking at the book because you are learning Syllabary or teaching someone. There is a story in this book for each syllabary symbol. It took me longer than one weekend, but the book helped a great deal.Sometimes you may think up a better story for one of the symbols. That's ok as long as you have some story in your head as,to why that symbol makes the sound it does.Even if you only remember a few stories from this book, you still gain ground on the syllabary.The stories will be clean and childish. If that insults your intelligence, then don't buy the book. If however you don't care if it's a silly story that causes you to remember...then buy the book. I mention that the language is clean so you will know it is also appropriate to show a child or a grandparent this book. It's simple enough that a child that can read simple books alone can read this. An adult could tell the stories to a younger child. I'm an adult and I used the stories for me.Also get "Cherokee Lessons" by Michael Joyner for further instructions in writing the letters and some basic words and phrases. It's available from Amazon.com.Get the Kindle app "Cherokee Language Syllabary" also by Michael Joyner. This is a game which calls out syllable characters and you must tap on the correct characters before time is up. You begin the game drilling one character. I have been studying Cherokee on and off for the past 12 or 13 years. I am an adult learner, not a tribal enrollee, but very interested in Cherokee language and culture. I have tried everything I could think of to learn the syllabary (including writing it innumerable times, sewing it, painting it, making flash cards, trying to make drawings with the characters in them, etc.). Also I have taken language classes offered by Cherokee Nation and EBCI. This book definitely is helping me remember the characters... The narratives are fun and they stay in my mind enough to help me remember the shapes of characters. I don't have a Kindle and can still be uncertain at times how to access books online, but it isn't too difficult to figure it out. I took a few weeks to get through on my spare time, and I enjoyed the little stories that went with each syllable. In order to understand the sounds on a few of them, it is necessary to understand the different dialects, but the syllable itself is memorized. None of the web links in the kindle version exist any longer, so I was a little frustrated by that.
