Review: Fantastic Chemistry Game - We have played the first version for a few years and always recommend it for people looking for a Chemistry game. I'm excited for this update. Some of our favorite things about Ion are: It doesn't take forever. You can play a round in 15-20 minutes which makes it a lot more interesting for my younger daughter who doesn't have the attention span for the longer Chemistry games. (Everyone in our house 8+ loves the longer ones too, but this one is fun for all.) It has accurate science. It's an easy way to introduce ionic charges, balancing charges, and naming of compounds. It's easy to learn. I played it with a group of 8 year olds after making slime because we needed a chemistry filler game and they all caught on after one round with no chemistry background. It comes in a small box which makes it easy to store or pack if we're going on a trip. Overall, it's such a good game. I highly recommend it.
Review: Awesome homeschool game! - I’ve really enjoyed integrating this game into our homeschool, and have already purchased a second game to gift! The gameplay is simple: the goal is to score the most points by balancing ions, and creating compounds, and by collecting sets of noble gases since they do not bond. (The advanced version of the game, recommended for 4+ players also includes playing with radioactive elements.) Even a student or younger sibling who hasn’t learned any chemistry can play along and learn something. I like that it increases my kids’ familiarity with the elements, some basic chemistry principles, and well-known compounds, without being too heavy or time consuming. There is also a booklet included to learn more of the science behind the game.

## Features

- LEARN SCIENCE: Players will interact and learn the fundamentals of ionic bonding through creating neutrally charged compounds, noble gases, charges, anions and cations, and acids and bases. Science geeks will love playing this game with their classroom, family, and friends in this fast-paced pick-and-pass card game.
- FAST PACED: Ion is a fast-paced card game for 2-7 players spanning around 20-30 minutes. Each round, players compete to build compounds using positively and negatively charged ions. Points are scored for successful compounds, Noble Gases, and achieving Goal Cards. After 3 rounds, the player with the most points wins!
- PICK AND PASS: Each player starts with a hand of 10 cards, and chooses one card to place in front of them. They then pass the rest of their hand to the player on their right, where they continue playing and passing cards until every card is used. Your goal is to match the positive and negative charges on your cards to create neutrally charged compounds, scoring points.
- SCIENTIFICALLY ACCURATE: All of Genius Games's products are peer-reviewed by a team of 20+ PhD Doctors and Scientists from around the globe. Ion also contains a Science Behind booklet, detailing how the mechanics and cards found in game relate to their real world concepts. Ion is also STEM and NGSS complaint, and was awarded the Dice Tower Seal of Approval. This game is perfect for at home learning, for use in the classroom, or adding some science to your next family game night.
- RADIOACTIVE CARD GAME: Also included is a harder difficulty which includes radioactivity. Recommended for more experience players and a party of 4+ people. This advanced game requires players to manage radioactive decay along with the radioactivity of other players. These cards score points at the end of each round, and additional points are given to the player(s) with the most decay at the end of the game. Step up your game with this challenging card game!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can this be played in a classroom group?**
A: I designed it specifically for my classroom, so yes absolutely. I would suggest starting out by just using the 8 cards in a player's hand, and don't use the Action Tiles, remove the Transition Metal, the Polyatomic Ions and Radioactive Cards. Simply deal 8 cards to each player, and flip two goal cards faceup (3 if playing 5 or more players) and then that's it. Once students get the hang of it, then you can add those other components in. Also, the game will play up to 7 players per copy of the game. However, sometimes having 7 students at a single table can get crowded and rambunctious. I usually played with 4 or 5 students to a game. Hope that helps!

**Q: Can 2 play easily? Do the rules differ for two-player play?**
A: 2 will work, however 3 or 4 is much better.

**Q: What ages is this appropriate for?**
A: We recommend 8 years and up but this age range is dependent on the players familiarization with traditional games and/or chemistry. It's not a really tough game to learn especially if there's an adult to teach the game and help walk younger players through the first few play throughs. You can also find a great How to Play video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCNNJqWCzL8

**Q: How does this compare to Compounded?**
A: I don't know anything about the Compounded game, but this one is very hard to play. I reread the rules several times and couldn't follow the instructions on how to play and I'm a chemistry teacher! I didn't even try it out on my classes.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fun and you learn
*by W***N on January 2, 2023*

Fun little filler card game. However, what makes this game different is the very accurate science and chemistry theme. This is a fun game that actually teaches the real chemistry concept of balancing equations. This company has a whole series of great games that teach science while you game. To me this game is the best of both worlds, really fun and competitive and at the same time really educational. They have some heavier games that are more worker placement if you want something that is not a quick filler. But instead of science fiction, here is a filler game that is actual science. Great little game.
