**Q: what are dimensions for this holder? picture reveals that is is deeper than 2X4.**
A: Yes it is deeper than a 2x4. In the photo, they put the mounts on the door. The door is recessed, so they only have room for a 2x4. I mounted my mounts to the wall using a 4x4 and a 5/4 deck board on the back side against the door. I have double doors going into my basement. Depending on the molding around your door it can very from 5 to 6 inches.

**Q: by the size it looks like you can fit a 4x4 in the slot?**
A: The day light opening from the face of the trim to the inside of brackett is 4". A 4x4 is 3.5 square.  I ripped a piece of wood 1/2" thick and attached to each end of the 4x4, so it was tight fit.  No play at all when you try to open the door.  So yes a 4x4 will work

**Q: Does it come with the 2x4?**

A: Hi - these are steak pieces, we use a 4x4 log in them. Not sure I understand your question? But they do not bend and the 4x4 has a little wiggle room, but very secure. Hope this helps.

Purchased to add to security for an exterior deep set door in my barn. They're 5" wide, so easily allow for use on a deep set door in a frame. Made of aluminum, so look nice, but in my opinion very overpriced and they do not come with mounting screws (knew that). I knowingly paid the premium price because they accommodate a deeply set door. On a shallow door you could use a 4x4" brace if you wanted. I use a 2 x 6" in my application and works great. For the price, they should include mounting screws or lags.
