Review: Killer Bass Tones! - Well, what can I say? It's co-designed by Geddy himself, to get Geddy's signature tone, and it does that in spades! Thus, any comments I might have on design are probably really beside the point. That said, I would have liked two additional capabilities: 1) to be able to footswitch the Drive and Deep channels in/out separately instead of only being able to change their levels via the front panel dials, and 2) to have an adjustable LPF on the Deep channel so bright tones don't always pass thru when engaged. This is my third Sansamp unit, as I previously owned an RBI and RPM, but this is my favorite by far. Why? Several reason really, but mostly because of the addition of the deep channel and the voicing, in general. The range of tones possible is amazing because each dial has such a wide but usable range. I don't have to move the dial far to achieve a very different tone. Of my three SansAmp units, this one seems to have less noise in the Drive circuits, though that may perhaps be my memory fooling me. It's been 2 years since playing through my last SansAmp. Another aspect of this unit that I didn't know I would like so much is the light green color of the faceplate and the dial knob shapes. It really makes my settings obvious from a distance. ## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is this a power amp and if so how many watts?**
A: No power. It's a preamp/DI (direct input, if you're new at this). It's pretty tonally versatile. But if you get one, you'll need something else to make it loud. I got mine for recording.  But I've played gigs where this was my rig and the PA was basically my power amp. That's how Geddy used his live with Rush.  If you look at pictures of their last few tours, you'll notice that the back line on his side of the stage was clothes driers full of tshirts in stead of amplifiers.

**Q: What is best way to run unit innto a bass amp?**
A: Sansamp actually included an option to sum (mix, add) the 2 channels to 1 channel. Drive and Deep become mixed together and the output of the Drive and Deep output jacks is the same. It takes about 5 minutes and a screwdriver, is easy, and is reversible. I found instructions online you could search for, in short, you remove the bottom panel and swap a jumper. There are two jumpers, the other affects the mute switch to become a bypass. Sansamp says it voids the warranty, so I'd get a guitar tech or electrical buddy to help maybe.

Another option, when you are not pretending to be geddy lee, is to use only the output of the drive channel. The drive channel is actually just a sansamp RPM, a discontinued, sought after preamp.

Great product by the way, it's got geddy's name on it, but I find that I can use it for anything.

**Q: How do you hook it up?**
A: It comes with instructions - you have several options on hook up along with dual output applications.
