Our old one was a very simple unit with a heat setting that would stay on until you shut it off. This unit took a bit to get used to with adjustable heat settings and auto shut off that is selectable. It took a bit to get used to it as somehow it stayed on all night and even at the lowest setting, it is extremely warm. If you are cold blooded, this is the unit for you. If you want the bed to warm up quickly, I would turn it on for 10 to 15 minutes and then turn it off.
