This incense is made using a mix of 8 healing ingredients including juniper, camphor, saldup and asta sugandha. It is then hand rolled into a fine rice paper and twisted into a small bundle. When burned, the earthy scent smells similar to sage. When you walk in the early morning hours in Kathmandu you can see the small mandalas drawn in front of each house where daily offerings are made. Within each mandala is burning this traditional incense. Each bundle contains approximately 50 ropes 4 inches long. To burn rope incense, light the end and place it in a small dish of sand. When burning, smells a lot like the stick one uses to light fireworks. I may experiment with added essential oils to improve smell-- otherwise is quite heavy in a smallish house.
