To avoid cam shaft damage and tool damage is to know how to use it correctly. To undo the camshaft bolts you need a camshaft sprocket holding tool and to not have the camshaft tools bolted up when undoing them. Once the sprocket bolts have been released using the sprocket holding tool you then realign the timing and then refit the locking tool bolts. A lack of knowledge and experience using this tool can lead to expensive and unnecessary damages. I would recommend this reasonable priced tool over the over priced laser version at £140. It's not the tool quality that's the problem it's the users knowledge and experience at fault.
