My husband has Parkinson’s, which has drastically affected his balance. He is not able to stand at the bathroom sink without fear of falling, and he is not able to get his rollator (walker with a seat) close enough to the sink to use our water flosser and to brush his teeth. We problem solved this by putting this shampoo cape down the front of him and placing the bottom of it in a plastic basin (like they use with patients in hospitals), which rests on his lap in his wheelchair. Prior to purchasing this cape, we tried this same set up, but using a plastic apron. The apron didn’t control the water on the sides adequately. The foam sides on this cape keep the water from splashing or dribbling out the sides. The cape can be adjusted around the neck with either hook and loop tape, or via metal clasps. I initially hesitated about making this purchase because of the price. Now that my husband has had such great success with using it for his needs, we think that it was money well spent. It is much better than hard plastic trays, hospital-rigged connectors (e.g. bed to wastebasket), etc. Even turtlenecks can stay dry if covered underneath. The floor might get wet, but that can be dried. The only problem is the neck velcro, which rubs the skin too much.
