The first one was purple and this one is blue. Don't know if that makes a difference or not. I had one of this type for many years and it basically still works but the pusher part finally broke when a friend jammed and forced it. It stayed sharp and cut fine after an infinite number of pills. The new one they sent works wonderful. The pusher helps to get the pill cut dead center. I've had it several weeks and cut pills daily and it is just wonderful. Tip it over and catch the pills in your hand and do what you want with it. I use one half and leave the other half in the cutter until I use it later in the day. If you want a wonderful pill cutter, get this one. Just don't be in such a hurry that you jam it and then pound it down. This will serve you for many years with a wonderful precision. This is a little medical device and should be handled gently. This contraption is exactly that kind of thing. It has one simple job, to cut pills in half. It fails. It has a fancy targeting mechanism for you to place the pill exactly in center. It also has a sliding cover that slides out of place just in time for the blade to chop the pill. Unfortunately, the blade is not in the center and the pills invariably end up getting chopped in a 70-30 or 60-40 ratio, not 50-50. I have to manually push the the pills slightly to the left to get it to cut them in half. Too much work. I'm having better results just splitting the pills using my fingers or my nails. Also, the safety cover slows the mechanism preventing the lid from closing smoothly. I can even touch the blade by closing the lid on my finger, so it's useless too.
