The 7200RPM Ultrastar drive inside features powerful performance with speeds up to 280MB/s read and 280MB/s write (22TB capacity) that is perfect for fast backup and access to your HD videos, photos, music, and other high-value content.

Review: Excellent High Capacity Hard Drive - The SanDisk Professional 8TB hard drive is very well made. Solid construction. Very elegant on the desktop. Drives are also stackable. It plugs into the Thunderbolt connection (cable supplied) of my Apple Mac Studio and was up and running within a few minutes. Drive is pre-formatted. The drive is powered by an external power plug (also supplied). When applying power to my Mac and SanDisk the drive does not spin up but waits for the Mac to power up. Both take about the same time to initialise and be ready for use. Perfect for storing my large photo library for use with Adobe Lightroom. The drive isn’t silent as it’s a mechanical hard drive but it isn’t irritating to use. It sits under my monitor next to the Mac Studio. There is enough audible feedback to show the drive is reading/writing. It is a quiet drive compared to others I have used, and it’s certainly a lot quieter than my NAS drive. Drive temperature is slightly warm when it’s been used for a few hours. Perfectly acceptable. Windows or Apple Mac Operating Systems power down the drive by default to save energy. This can be disabled in the OS settings. It’s easy to find the step by step instructions on the SanDisk support web page.
Review: They fail often - I have had 5 of these drives and so far three of them have just stopped working. The old g-drives by gtech were brilliant, since SanDisk took over the company and rebranded these drives, they must be the worst hard drive on the market in my opinion. At first, you will think these are great, nice write and read speeds for a spinning single hard drive, and everything looks great. However, the problems with these are numerous, first up the drives are constantly disconnecting from your computer, I have used them on several macs and they have performed the same on each. Next up the drive will never eject gracefully, you have to shut the computer down so you can safely remove the drive, do not force eject them as you will end up with issues. Then suddenly out of nowhere, the drive will just fail to mount and no matter what you try, they will not mount at all. The only option then is to see if software can mount it, now using diskdrill i managed to gain access to one drive and successfully restored the contents onto a Lacie drive (this is who i switched to). On another occasion, i had the drive just not mount at all, and the software will not pick it up, the drive was just over a year old. SanDisk support is terrible, and the only option you have is to send them the drive back while losing your data. If the drive is out of warranty then you can dismantle the drive to get access to the hard drive, and use a drive bay to access the contents, as the failure with these hard drives is always the mechanics and not the actual hard drive inside. It was such a shame as i had high hope for these drives. So please make sure you do your research before committing to purchasing these drives, as belive me you will regret it later.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Exactly what I needed
*by C***L on 18 November 2024*

Great hard drive for what I needed. I'm a wedding filmmaker and photographer and this hard drive is fast enough for me to work straight off of. I don't really understand the noise complaints. It makes a bit of noise but nothing major. I think we've gotten so focussed on everything being silent. I certainly wouldn't say it's a distraction at all. Just a normal hard drive noise.
