It turned the grease into a mayonnaise consistency (same chemical process) then I just had to rinse it off with plenty of water (not sure if that is the recommended use but it worked for me). Make sure to reapply chain lubricant to displace the water so you don't end up with a rusty chain. I really like that it is not a dangerous substance as some other degreasers are.
