Review: The best NVMe caddy I have bought (so far) - I have bought two of these now as while they aren't the cheapest NVMe caddies, they are definitely the strongest I have ever bought. If you take into account I have had and discarded quite a few sub-£10-15 caddies, these work out quite reasonable. Pros: Solid metal construction, really sturdy. Good data transfer rate; slightly subjective though as it will depend on the drive and PC USB speed. Very easy to install and remove drive; it uses a twist clip to secure the drive in the caddy. Internals appear to have a seal to protect them between the case back and the body; I'm not sure why as I have no plan to submerse mine but it does give a nice fit when you place the back on; will do a good job of keeping things dust free. Looks great; it's ASUS but is not covered in ROG or Gamer branding. Cons: None really, while slightly pricey it holds its own for rugidness which lets face it, with the price of NVMe drives at the moment, you want the protection to be reliable.
Review: Why buy premade? Depends.. - Honestly, the best portable storage device you can have it's the one you can make, maintain and be sure it's fast and solid. For reviewing, I've used the WD 7100 1TB SSD in this A1 enclosure with the included USB-C cable on a USB-C 3.1 port. PROS: - Solid aluminium body - Thick walls - Amazing heat dissipation due to the above - Solid and thick isolating rubber (confident no water or dust will ever enter this enclosure even from the USB-C port) - Speeds are well above the competitors (by that i mean prebuilt T7 or Crucials which are limited to slower speeds - they perform as well but lack of speed means restricted use scenarios) - USB C 3.2 cable included provides the best speeds (which will be a CON too because if you lose the cable or use a slower one you'll get slower speeds) - Easy to install the M.2 and secure once screwed in with the included tool (a small hex/allen key) - Can fit any M.2 size that is 22mm wide and up to 80mm long (there are longer ones but not that common); So from M.2 2230 to M.2 2280 CONS: - The enclosure is a bit bigger than the prebuilt competitors, but not too bulky and fits in all rubber mounts and most pockets fairly well - Use the USB Cable included if you want the best speeds; otherwise, your speeds might vary depending on the cable you're using Recommendations: - If you plan on using it on any devide (your phone, windows PC, Mac or even a streaming device through an USB dock) it's best to format the SSD to exFAT so any machine can read and write to it without sacrificing speed - There is no need to go overboard with the best or fastest M.2 SSD you can find, because most of them are made for specific applications. In my case i got the above mentioned WD just because that's what i use primarily in all my machines and had no issues with them. You can even try Crucial ones or whatever you think is best as long as it's TLC Memory (a bit slower but more reliable compared to QLC ones.) Will come with an update if anything happens (like the chip inside failing or something goes wrong with the enclosure).

**Q: I have a samsung nvme ssd 960evo m.2, will this be fine?**
A: Yes works with all m.2

**Q: does it show up as a internal drive in windows? or a usb stick**
A: Once you've put the mvme drive in it shows up as a usb drive in windows, it specifically shows up as ROG arion.

**Q: Only getting 1gb read speeds using thunderbolt 4 or super speed usb ports with original cables -  any ideas.  I have a samsung pro 990 2tb installed**

Enclosure is rated for 10 Gbp/s which translates to 1.25GB/s max theoretical speeds 

990 has max read speed of 6900MB/s read which translates to 6.9 GB/s or 55 Gbp/s . These transfer speeds you'll see via PCIe 4/5 connections on Motherboards & Laptops that are rated at 7.8GB/s or 63Gbp/s

**Q: what are the max drive speeds i can get with this when using a 7gbps sabrent drive?**
A: I'm using it on a Macos with usb-c 40gb/s and Intel SSD, the disk speed test gave results: -Writing 708.2 MB/s and Reading 818 MB/s. The Sabrent SSD I installed on my Asus laptop!

I have bought two of these now as while they aren't the cheapest NVMe caddies, they are definitely the strongest I have ever bought.
