Enjoying it so far, even though there are so many differences between a Nikon menu and a Sony Menu. But the RX10 iv will be my new camera to travel with. I was getting tired of carrying a ton of lenses, several bodies, which now along side a Tenba BYOB10 stuffed in a Northface backpack will be the only thing I'll be using as carry on luggage! Plus I can put other things in my backpack as well as it won't just be for camera gear anymore. Kudos also to Beach Camera for the wonderful and quick service! It was shipped out the same day I bought it and arrived here a couple of days later! Wonderful service!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can a beginner use it?**
A: Yes, but...   The RX10 IV is a professional grade camera in consumer clothing, so to speak.  This is a high end "Bridge Camera" where you don't have to carry a bunch of lenses with you, but while it can be used by a beginner, using the "Auto" mode, it is has much of the same capabilities as comparably priced DSLRs.  If the "Beginner" just wants a camera "to take pictures with", there a much simpler and less expensive cameras available that will provide great photos.  If the "Beginner" wishes to "learn" photography and the associated methods/techniques that are employed by skilled photographers (this implies that they will put the required time in), this is a great camera for that purpose, without having to invest in a suitcase full of lenses, and is also a great camera overall.

**Q: Does this have image stabilization?**
A: Yes. It is refered to as SteadyShot. It is available as a menu option for both Still Images and Movies. According to Alexander White’s “Photographer’s Guide to the Sony DSC-RX10iv” (highly recommended): “SteadyShot is Sony’s optical stabilization system, which compensated for small movements of the camera to avoid motion blur, especially during exposures of linger than about 1/30 second. The setting is turned on by default, and I recommend leaving it on at all times, except when the camera is on a tripod. In that case, SteadyShot is not needed, and there is some chance it can “fool” the camera and cause it to try to correct for motion that does not exist, resulting in image blur. The setting option for still image on/off can be found on Screen 5 of Camera Settings 2 Menu.

**Q: Are there any useful accessories that you would recommend. ?**
A: A good 72mm polarizing filter to minimize glare is useful if you intend to photograph outdoors.  Depending on the subjects you intend to photograph, it may be good to have a sturdy tripod for low-light shots.  So far I've found that it is possible to raise the ISO to around 2000 or more without seeing much noise in the photos, so in many low-light situations, the shutter speed is high enough that the camera can be hand held and no flash is necessary.  Just something you need to play with and see what works best for you.  I bought a dual-bay USB digital battery charger and two backup batteries.  You may or may not need those, depending on how many photos you take and how much you use the flash. I'll probably eventually get an off-camera flash, but I haven't done that yet.

**Q: is this only auto focus ? or is there a manual focus on the lens?**
A: There are 5 focus modes available for shooting still images with the RX10IV, as indicated by the 5 settings for the focus mode dial (S, A, C, DMF, and MF). S-single shot auto-focus, A-automatic auto focus, C-continuous auto focus, DMF-Direct Manual Focus and MF-Manual Focus. For video there are only two available, C-continuous and MF-Manual Focus.
