Review: Amazing value, Sturdy and Excellent Print Quality - This is my second 3d printer after moving on from a Creality CR-10s. I was never able to get decent adhesion on the CR-10 due to the uneven bed and bad print surface. I got sick of the constant tinkering and frustration so I decided to take my chances on the Sidewinder because it had everything I needed. In short, I was very happy. From the time you receive the package, you will see that Artillery/Evnovo cares about its product and it strives to innovate. The printer comes very well packed and with a lot of spares. Some things I like: Clean and modern design; sturdy; flat bed; easy to level; excellent print quality out of the box; -- and lastly, quiet! Man is this thing quiet. You will not believe it. Dislikes are fewer. Leveling knobs are hard to get at and reattach but are very precise. The only other thing is that I wish it came with mesh bed leveling enabled, in addition to the manual leveling, and support for a leveling probe. One note of caution: The bed is VERY sticky and you have to wait for the bed to cool down before removing a print. The test file on the included USB turns the bed to a scorching 80C, which practically welded the test cube to the bed with PLA. I did not want to mess up my level or risk damaging the bed so I put 4 ice cubes around the test cube and I heard a pop and off it came. No need for force. Another piece of advice is to take your time making sure theY axis carriage rollers are tensioned correctly, and heat cycle your bed a couple of times with the knobs loosened all the way. I did this by heating the bed up to 100C for five minutes and waiting for it to cool all the way. I did this twice before re-tightening the knobs and manual leveling at 60C. This seemed to get rid of a tiny amount of dip in the center of the bed. Other than that, the glass was very flat in most directions. Overall, this is a 4.9 out of 5 and is a perfect printer for a beginner or advanced user, and is a great value for the money. There is a great Artillery community on 3d Nexus and Reddit which has custom firmware if you are a more advanced owner and want features like mesh bed leveling and a leveling probe.
Review: Nice. - Purchased it to replace my original, uber-cheap unit, that was basically an erector set. This unit is sweet. Easy set-up, plug and play. Not sure what the bed does but you can print directly on it, unlike my old one that was just an aluminum bed and needed masking tape; but once the table cools, the part slides right off. High quality prints, very repeatable, minimal adjustments (just set-up and go), smooth, fast and quite. Large print area. The material rides on bearings overhead instead of an axel. This can be a little inconvenient because you need to adjust for different spool widths, but it works so smoothly, its forgivable. Has nice features like material run-out detection, material change feature (backs material out, then feeds new material in purging the old from the extruder tip. If material needs to be changed during the print, this feature will retreat the head automatically, and then return it to the stop point and continue. It is a very, very, nice unit for the price.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: The photos aren't showing where and what type of memory card this printer uses, if it indeed can. Anyone?**
A: A USB stick comes with the printer

**Q: Will this support BLTouch?**
A: Yes the main board on this printer can support the bltouch

**Q: Is this version 4 of the Sidewinder X1?**
A: Purchasing from my shop, CE3D Printing, I can ensure you get v4

**Q: what is a good but free software to use**
A: Knowing which type of software you are looking for would help better answer the question, but there are two main needs: design and slicer. For design, I use Fusion360, which is free for hobbyists and had plenty of youtube tutorials. For slicing, personal preference comes into play, but Cura seems to be the most popular for Sidewinder owners. There's also Prusaslicer and Ideamaker, both free.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ showing age, needs a lot of upgrades, but has some redeeming features
*by A***O on August 20, 2022*

Bought over 2 years ago now, and in that time I've found a lot of minor gripes and swapped several parts. with some relatively inexpensive upgrades its a decent printer, but out of the box leaves a bit to be desired. TL;DR Overall this printer has been a labor of love and while I don't regret paying the money I did for it at the time, I'm not sure I could justify paying almost $500 USD for it today. Having spares of certain parts is nice, but those have sat mostly untouched as they aren't the parts likely to need replacement. size is the major selling point, along with the glass lattice bed. a 300mm x 300mm bed is large enough to print just about anything you want in one piece, and the bed texture is surprisingly adhesive, I've never had to resort to any replacement surfaces to get parts to print well, and most prints will detatch from the bed easily once below 40C. That's where most of the positives end however. The extruder is a clone of a reversed titan, built with much cheaper materials than the real thing. the tensioning screw, idler lever, drive gear, and hob gear are all injection molded plastic instead of steel, and I've had to replace all of these with metal parts after they've stripped or otherwise broken. the heat block is cheap cast aluminum, which has long since stripped out the threads. the nozzle and silicone sock are of decent quality, but have also worn out in my time of use and needed replacement. I've decided to remove the casing from the extruder motor and its PCB because its just gotten in the way with how many times I've had to take apart the head, and only serves to trap heat near the board and add more bulk to the head. Moving away from the print head, most of the electronics above the base are exposed, and the wires for the bed heater crimp over time in the fire resistant sleeve because it folds in the same place every time. All the brackets are either extruded or plasma cut aluminum, which wouldn't be an issue if the ones for the belts were at all adjustable, I've had to replace them with aftermarket tensioner brackets to keep my belts tight over time. The gantry is only held to the base with 4 bolts, and because of the spool needing to be placed on the top, has some shake issues during rapid printing. Combined with my Z screws being slightly bent, it makes a noticeable amount of noise when moving the head during rapid moves and leaves slight banding on prints every 20mm due to the wobble. Unless controlling the printer remotely, you have to use the runout sensor as a filament guide, and the switch inside often doesn't activate when flexible filaments are ran through it. The base of the printer is relatively well built, and has USB 2.0, SD card, and USB-B (printer cable) ports. the included flash drive is 1GB, which is plenty for storing GCode files. The included direct connection USB to USB-B cable is far too short unless you can set your printer directly to the left of your computer, and I've found the port on the printer to be pretty loose. The printers firmware is marlin-based, and old enough to be missing features like heating the bed and hotend at the same time, pause and resume at height, and other conveniences found on more up to date printers, but does have power outage recovery and filament runout detection, as well as built in bed leveling, filament changing, and manual extrusion control.
