One of the chief problems of modern styrene kits is the tendency for seams not to fit perfectly. I've experienced this with Revell's SR-71 Blackbird 1/72 scale, Revell B-2 bomber 1/144 scale, and several brands of sub models, including Revell, Lindberg and even Hobby Boss. The solution: Mr. Surfacer! This is so much better than the standard modeling putty. Not to denigrate Testor, for example -- I don't know where I'd be without that company's enamel, acrylic and lacquer paints -- but Mr. Surfacer is far superior to Testor's model putty. Much easier to work with, for one thing -- for most seams, I have been able to applay Mr. Surfacer with a small paint brush. Some applications require on pass, some two or three; you can tell by the results you're getting. Some hints: Don't apply it too thickly. Several thin applications are better than one thick one. Sanding, wet or dry, or acetone reduction will be minimized by applying thin applications. Work your way up to the seam being filled; don't try to do it all at once! In fact, probably the best thing is to think of Mr. Surfacer as a rather thick primer.
