They hold larger mugs quite well like the big Yeti that my wife has. They are made out of very thick metal welded to a somewhat thinner base. The base is the week link for sure but I think it's plenty strong to do the job. These might rattle with a metal mug inside but I was thinking that I could plasti-dip them to help if it becomes an issue. They are quite large so if you want to install them in a tight area or hold those thin bottles of water they may not be the best for that.
