They are more absorbent and the cotton covering is better than the usual sponges. The abrasive side is very effective too. I've been using these for years and wouldn't go back to the ordinary green ones. When the sponge gets a bit tatty for using on dishes, it can be used for other household cleaning so it lasts a while. Excellent for kitchen worktops. They are great for cleaning the bathroom too -since they dry off the cleaner residue and water quickly. Worth the money. **Q: What temperature can they be washed at?** A: Sorry, I haven't ever washed them in the washing machine but I do sterilize them by soaking them overnight in a diluted bleach solution and this works well. **Q: I need to clean kitchen textured ceiling ready to paint, it’s greasy will these be ok? Any other suggestions?** A: I’ve only used them as pan scourers or as a surface wipe. You could try using them for your ceiling as they’ve very durable but you’d also need to use something to dissolve the grease. I would suggest sugar soap. **Q: What material are these made from?** A: They have a piece of sponge inside, microfiber cloth one side and have a slightly abrasive metallic thread intertwined with cotton type thread on the other. Good value and are lasting well ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good reusable option *by S***Y on 25 January 2019* I wanted to try an option that was less wasteful and more hygienic than disposable sponges so decided to give these a go. I've had them for 3 months and I've only used one so far. It does not shed or smell at all. I wash it in the dishwasher about once a week (not in the washing machine as the instructions state to wash it without fabric softener) and it still looks brand new. The silver side is more abrasive than a usual sponge and the colourful side is really soft, both of which are fine by me. It's slightly longer and thinner than a conventional sponge, which I also like. I use it in the kitchen for any items I cannot/will not put in the dishwasher (metallic, ceramic, wooden, glass) and it works great. I predominantly do the dishes with green soap, castille soap or vinegar and it's performed well with all of these. If you're going plastic-free I would not recommend those as they do seem to contain some plastic. However they last much longer and I've not had to replace one yet, so definitely helping towards creating less waste.
