Review: Great find - adds new dimension to cooking - This product gives an acidic flavour. I bought this product to make non- probiotic vegan yoghurt and it worked just fine. I also used it in a batch of vegan mozzarella cheese which did not set. I added two teaspoons to the mozzerella and it became vegan sour cream which was great on potato wedges. I will use the lactic acid instead of lemon juice when making tofu sour cream. I would recommend this product in recipes where you are trying to get an acid flavour, and you want to keep liquids in the mixture to a minimum.
Review: The Ultimate pH Balancer for DIY Solid Shampoo & Conditioner! - Perfect for Solid Haircare Products 🧼 I bought the Special Ingredients Lactic Acid Powder specifically to pH balance my homemade cosmetic formulations, and it has been a total game-changer! If you make solid shampoo or conditioner bars, you know how tricky it is to get the acidity right without ruining the texture. Superior Performance Over Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) 🍏 I previously used ACV to adjust acidity, but it introduced too much liquid into my recipes, often making the bars too soft or slow to cure. Switching to this powder allows me to achieve the perfect acidic environment for hair (around pH 4.5–5.5) while keeping my solid formulations firm and professional. Key Benefits in Cosmetics • Perfect Dispersion: When mixed into warm liquids, the powder disperses perfectly and evenly. No clumping or grainy patches in the final product! ✨ • Stability: Unlike ACV, this lactic acid is much more stable over time, ensuring products maintain their quality and effectiveness on the shelf. ⏳ • Scalp Health: At low concentrations, Lactic Acid does more than just balance pH—it can help clear dandruff, support a healthy skin microbiome, and keep the scalp's natural defenses strong. 🧬 Hydration Boost: Beyond just balancing pH, it acts as a humectant. It helps the hair and scalp retain moisture without the dryness or irritation caused by harsher adjusters. 💦 Pro-Tips for Usage • Keep it Low: I highly recommend keeping usage rates below 3% for standard hair and skin products. At this level, Lactic Acid is ideal for pH balancing and hydration and does not cause dryness or irritation. • Exfoliation Secret: If you do want to go higher, concentrations above 3% can be used to exfoliate feet. It’s a simple, effective solution that leaves them baby-soft! 👣 • Weight Precision: It’s much easier to measure by weight than trying to "drip" liquid acids into a thick surfactant paste. Final Verdict If you are serious about DIY cosmetics—especially waterless or solid beauty—this is a staple. It’s effective, keeps my bars solid, and provides a much more professional finish than kitchen pantry alternatives. 🏆

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can someone tell me how many % lactic acid are inside?**
A: 60% Lactic Acid, 40% Calcium Lactate. Thank you for your enquiry.

**Q: How much powder would be required to make an 80% solution?**
A: Difficult question- what receipe are you trying to make?

**Q: Can this be used to speed up sauerkraut fermentation (from raw cabbage) ?**
A: I don't believe so. I think it is none reactive. So for instance I use it to give the fermented taste, to non-fermented soya yoghurt.

**Q: any one made soya yogurt using this if so what is the recipe**
A: I just googled it and found this recipe. Hope it helps http://simpleveganblog.com/soy-yogurt/
